THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said it collected P1.111 trillion in April this year, exceeding its collection target for the period by more than P7 billion.
The agency also said this number is 14.5 percent higher than what it collected in the same period last year.
It said the P1.111 trillion is already more than 35 percent of the bureau’s 2025 tax collection target of P3.232 trillion.
The tax bureau said it achieved its target of collecting P2.848 trillion in 2024.
Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. said the BIR will continue to encourage those who are non-compliant to pay their taxes, through the campaign against sellers and buyers of fake receipts, and with the continuous streamlining and digitalization of the BIR’s core services.
The BIR has been cracking down on sellers of illegal vape, and is also looking into auditing social media influencers on their tax compliance.
It has, however, also exempted more medicines from value-added tax. (ABS-CBN News)
