ILOILO City – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Barangay Ungka, Jaro district has reinforced security measures following the interception of illegal drugs on Wednesday, March 13.

According to jail warden, Atty. Jairus Anthony Dogelio, they have yet to identify who threw the illegal drugs and who was supposed to be the receiver.

“As of now, hindi naton ma-determine kun sin-o nag-try nga pasudlon kag para kay sin-o kay nakasulod lang sa black socks. Isa pa around 1,000 ka mga inmates ang detained diri,” Dogelio said.

A tower guard discovered two sachets of suspected shabu concealed within a cigarette box found inside a black sock at around 7:45 a.m., along with stones potentially used for throwing.

Dogelio believes that whoever attempted to sneak in the contraband has been in the facility, as they may seem to know the layout of the structures.

The target area, he added, was likely the basketball court where the inmates were playing.

The perpetrator was also able to evade the surveillance camera, Dogelio added.

He explained that there is approximately a five-meter distance between the wall and the exterior building where the sock was likely thrown.

As part of their efforts to uncover the truth and ensure security, BJMP has restricted and monitored the movements of inmates while also intensifying intelligence monitoring.

Sige aton inspection sa mga ginapadala nga mga gamit kag food sa mga inmates,” Dogelio said.

He added they are also conducting non-stop greyhound operations against contraband inside the facility./PN
