ROXAS City – The implementation of Ordinance No. 040-2017 or the Sidewalk Ordinance of 2017 today will be “bloody.”
City Administrator Gilbert Tan said this during a July 13 briefing attended by members of the Task Force Hawan led by Mayor Angel Alan Celino.

“We expect strong opposition mostly from vendors but we are determined. Through Task Force Hawan, we will impose discipline and order in our city,” said Tan.

The ordinance regulates the use of sidewalks, streets, bridges, parks, and other public areas.
Some vendors were upset.

According to them, there was no public hearing conducted, contrary to the claim of Councilor Powell del Rosario, who authored the ordinance.

“We will stage a rally in front of the city hall or sell our goods inside the city hall premises as a sign of protest,” a vendor who refused to be identified said.

Business establishments that will violate the ordinance will no longer be issued permits in 2018, Tan said./PN
