ILOILO – The Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force (IPBDTF) apprehended a fishing boat allegedly involved in dynamite fishing near Bukot Island, Barangay Taloto-an, Concepcion town.

During a routine seaborne patrol in the coastal waters of Concepcion on Sunday, October 27, a team led by Police Chief Master Sergeant Ariel, with Police Staff Sergeant Alson Jude Maderaje and Police Corporal Leve Jan Begaja, spotted the fishing vessel “F/B Mark Ivan” reportedly engaging in illegal fishing practices.

The vessel, captained by Reymark Incronal Albento, had three crew members on board: Michael Incronal Albento, Reldon Calsada Incronal, and Mhayt Mahinay Serafino — all residents of Sitio Bagolumbi, Barangay Tanao, Batad, Iloilo.

Recovered items included three kilograms of sardines, locally known as tabagak, with an estimated market value of P300, and two kilograms of yellow stripe scad, locally called dalino-an, also valued at P300.

Additionally, a 375 ml bottle of Tanduay Rhum, suspected to contain homemade explosives, was confiscated.

The boat captain and crew were informed of their alleged violations, specifically Section 92, Paragraph A of Republic Act 10654, an amendment to the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 (Republic Act 8550), which aims to prevent, deter, and eliminate illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.

The task force currently holds the fishing boat, its equipment, and all recovered items. Fish samples will be submitted to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – Region 6 for scientific analysis./PN
