ILOILO City – A bomb exploded in the compound of former Antique provincial government information officer Eric Otayde in Barangay District 1, Sibalom, Antique on Sunday.
Otayde and his family were inside their house at the time of the explosion around 8 p.m. They were unhurt.
According to Police Major Rex Farren, Sibalom police chief, the Otaydes initially suspected that someone lobbed an explosive into their yard so it took them several minutes to call for assistance.
The Antique’s Explosives Ordnance Division later claimed it was a vintage bomb but could not ascertain as to what type, Farren said.
Reportedly, said Farren, during World War 2 the Japanese built a hospital on the lot where the Otayde residence now stands.
“Basi mga bomba pa sang mga Japanese ina nga wala naglupok. Now because sang init kag ulan nag-explode. I want to make it clear that it’s not a grenade that exploded,” Farren said.
No properties were damaged./PN
