ROXAS City – Items used for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were found in a nipa hut that rebels allegedly abandoned in Barangay Putian, Cuartero, Capiz.

Aside from the IED items, members of the Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion (IB) also recovered 13 backpacks containing personal belongings, medical kit, subversive documents, and revolutionary flag from the hut during Saturday’s search.

Lieutenant Colonel Sisenando Magbalot Jr., commander of the 61st IB, believes that the items were that of the New People’s Army.

He added that the rebels may have planned to make IEDs to attack soldiers who frequent the area to conduct community support programs.

Magbalot also said they chanced upon a man inside the hut during the search. But he was released after the soldiers found that he has no connection with the abandoned items./PN
