MANILA – The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo believes the electoral complaint that former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. filed against them will be dismissed.

Robredo’s legal counsel Romulo Macalintal said the weakness of Marcos’ petition was evident with the losing vice presidential candidate’s revelation of alleged poll fraud evidence.

“Mr. Marcos’ protest is clearly facing its effectual dismissal,” Macalintal told a news conference on Tuesday. “He knows his protest is very weak, that’s why he is using evidence outside (the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, or PET).”

On Monday, Marcos disclosed “evidence” of election documents supposedly showing “shocking and highly questionable” poll results in several towns in Camarines Sur and Negros Oriental.

Images of ballots showed that votes for him in these provinces were either not counted or considered undervotes, Marcos said.

“Marcos is afraid because we will soon have a recount. It will prove that there was no fraud that happened, there was no mistake done by our vote counting machines,” Macalintal said.

“Also, their evidences were fabricated. Why don’t you go to the PET and ask to be allowed to compare with copies from the election tribunal?” he added. “How would you know if there is discrepancy? Did you ever ask the PET for comparison?”

Marcos lost the 2016 vice presidential race to Robredo by 263,473 votes in the final and official tally of the Commission on Elections. He garnered 14,155,344 votes while Robredo got 14,418,817.

In his election protest, Marcos questioned the election results in 39,221 clustered precincts involving around 9 million votes in around 25 provinces and five cities.

Marcos cited alleged pre-shading of ballots, massive vote-buying, script change in the transparency server that supposedly altered the results, preloaded secure digital cards, misreading of ballots, malfunctioning vote counting machines, and an “abnormally high” unaccounted votes/undervotes for the position of vice president./PN
