BORACAY – Four Philippine islands rounded out the top four friendliest islands in the world, according to Travel+Leisure magazine.
This island resort — long considered the country’s tourism gem — ranked fourth behind Palawan (first), Cebu (second) and Luzon (third), the New York-based publication’s 2016 list showed.
Travelers in need of a hospitable, personable island retreat should consider the islands on the list a definitive guide to the friendliest islands on Earth, the magazine’s Jess McHugh wrote in an article published on March 31.
Describing the No. 4-ranked Boracay, McHugh said, “Settle in at a spa or go diving for shipwrecks at this small island, which is just as beloved for its welcoming people as it is for its undeniable beauty.”
Following Boracay in the friendliest islands list are (in order) Waiheke, New Zealand; Ischia, Italy; Tasmania, Australia; Fiji Islands; Bali, Indonesia; Great Barrier Reef Islands; Moorea; Paros, Greece; Bora Bora; Exhumas, Bahamas; and Caye Culker, Belize.
In 2015, Mackinac Island, a 4-square-mile island on Michigan’s Lake Huron, was the world’s friendliest island.
According to McHugh, the Travel+Leisure World’s Best Awards survey asked travelers to score their experiences across the globe, evaluating everything from cruise lines and airports to resorts, cities and hotels.
