BORACAY — Thousands of massage therapists and volunteers took part in this island’s attempt to break the Guinness world record for the longest massage chain.
A total of 1,600 people simultaneously massaged each other for seven minutes at the White Beach near Station 2 on Friday, said Felix Delos Santos, municipal tourism officer of Malay.
The Boracay event broke the record that Bangkok, Thailand, set — 1,223 participants — four years ago via an event staged by Have A Good Dream Co. Ltd. and Thai Beverage Marketing Co. Ltd.
However, Delos Santos said, the world famous resort island’s attempt is yet to be validated by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Gov. Florencio Miraflores and Malay Mayor John Yap were among the hundreds of witnesses to the largest-ever simultaneous massage of trained therapists and volunteers at the beachfront.
The event was organized by the municipal government of Malay in collaboration with Aldtriz Corp., San Miguel Corp. and Petron as part of the annual “Boracay Day” celebration.
The bid to set the world record was designed to promote health and wellness and to strengthen the international competitiveness of massage offered in Boracay.
Spas in the resort island are popular for their affordable massage treatments, as well as traditional services of masseurs on the beach./PN
