BORACAY, Aklan – A member of the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center (BTAC), the island’s police force, was adjudged as one of the outstanding officers in the country in terms of police-community relations.
Senior Police Officer 1 Christopher Mendoza is chosen as the Outstanding Senior Police Non-Commissioned Officer this year.
The award is in line with the 22nd Police Community Relations Month Celebration this July.
Mendoza will formally receive his award along with the other national awardees during the flag-raising ceremony at the PNP National Headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City on July 31.
He is the only awardee from Region 6 this year.
Mendoza was cited for the various programs he spearheaded in the tourist-island as the head of the Police Community Relations Office of BTAC.
He was cited for his active involvement in strengthening community participation in the tourist island, as well as, his participation in various environmental protection activities, community assistance and development projects, communication programs and management, rescue operations, children protection, community organization and mobilization and awareness lectures in the community, among others.
“Vital importation comes from the community. Therefore, a strong partnership between the police and the community is important,” said Mendoza in an interview Saturday.
Among the latest activity spearheaded by Mendoza was the launching of the Bless our Cops project in Boracay on Saturday.
The project which is a brainchild of Senior Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, regional police chief, aims to build a good relationship between the police and the members of the church. (PNA)
