Boracay shot put athlete bags gold in WVRAA 2024

KALIBO, Aklan – A 12-year-old athlete from Boracay Island in Malay town grabbed the first gold medal for Aklan in elementary girls shot put in the 2024 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet in Bacolod City.

Diovy Red Villasoto Luces, a Grade 6 pupil of Balabag Elementary School, outclassed Gelyka Golingan of Iloilo Province in dominant fashion for the gold with a throw of 10.06 meters.

Golingan from Carles Central School captured the silver medal in 9.21 meters, while Ashly Nicole Manunag of F.M. Cabras Elementary School in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental registered 9.14 meters for the bronze.

Luces is mentored by coach Jonel Isleta and assistant coach Felrose Inamac.

Mark Jaydan Tasoy of Laserna Integrated School in Nabas town clocked 15:59:59 to take home the silver in 5,000-meter run secondary boys athletics, while Michael Gabriel Lozada of Infant Jesus Academy in Kalibo settled for bronze in 16:23.73.

Celmar Alcoran of San Joaquin School of Fisheries in Iloilo dominated the event in 15:59:04.

Gil Bryan Manuel of Boracay National High School (Malay, Aklan) also took home the bronze medal in secondary boys long jump in 6.60 meters.

In paragames athletics, Cristina Dela Cruz of Kalibo Integrated Special Education Center bagged the shot put gold medal in Girls Level T12 (Visually Impaired-Partially Blind) with a heave of 4.75 meters.

JL Surita of Iloilo got the silver in 4.68 meters and Kessa Nicole Coronado of Negros Occidental in 4.62 meters for the bronze.

Shyra Sumagingsing of Ibajay Central School also settled for silver in shot put Girls Level T13 (Visually Impaired-Low Vision) in 4.45 meters.  

WVRAA 2024 is co-hosted by the Province and the Schools Division of Negros Occidental and the Schools Division of Bacolod City from May 2 to 7./PN
