Boracay ‘will rise from the ashes’

Former Environment secretary Gina Lopez

SAN JOSE, Antique – Former Environment secretary Gina Lopez is positive that tourists will come back to Boracay Island once its rehabilitation is complete.

“Boracay will be like a phoenix, it will rise from the ashes,” Lopez told media members in this capital town on Friday.

Lopez is now the chairman of ILOVE (Investments in Loving Organizations for Village Economies) Foundation. She was in San Jose to launch her Quest for LOVE Program.

Lopez stressed that the island closure is much-needed.

“We can’t continue killing the goose that lays the golden egg,” said Lopez, adding that with the benefits Boracay brings to many people, especially those in the tourism sector, it must be well taken care of.

“We can’t do business by killing the environment,” she said.

Boracay is subjected to a closure that may reach up to six months to pave the way for its restoration.

The island will be shut down beginning April 26. (With PNA/PN)
