MANILA — Blackwater Bossing halted its skid in emphatic fashion, outlasting powerhouse San Miguel Beermen, 126-120, in a high-scoring upset in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Showing urgency and resilience, the Bossing squandered a 22-point second-quarter lead before weathering a late San Miguel surge, then delivering a decisive finishing kick behind Sedrick Barefield, Bryan Andrade, and Christian David to secure only their second win in eight games.
San Miguel briefly seized control, 112-109, in the final minutes, but Blackwater refused to collapse, answering with a crucial run that swung momentum back in their favor and ultimately sealed the victory.
Robert Upshaw III dominated with a double-double of 34 points and 15 rebounds, while Barefield provided scoring firepower with 29 markers as Blackwater improved to a 2-6 record.
David added 15 points, Andrade chipped in 13, while Paul Zamar and rookie Cyrus Austria provided key contributions off the bench with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Despite the loss, Bennie Boatwright delivered a game-high 38 points for the Beermen, with June Mar Fajardo adding 28 markers. Jaymar Perez and Marcio Lassiter finished with 24 and 15 points, respectively, as San Miguel dropped to 4-5.
In the other game, Converge FiberXers leaned on a blistering start and held firm down the stretch to defeat TNT Tropang 5G, 97-92, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Justin Arana powered the FiberXers with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds, earning Player of the Game honors as Converge improved to 3-6.
The former Arellano University standout imposed his presence against TNT import Bol Bol, including a clutch basket in the closing moments that helped secure the win.
Juan Gomez de Liaño delivered an all-around performance with 16 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals, while Mikey Williams and Alec Stockton added 13 points each.
Bol led TNT with 32 points and 16 rebounds, while Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser and Jordan Heading contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively. Calvin Oftana and Roger Pogoy added 12 apiece as the Tropang 5G slipped to 5-3./PN
