ILOILO City – Two brothers from Barangay Boulevard, Molo district were accused of attacking a tanod.

One of them, 26-year-old LugemarPijo, was arrested. He faces an attempted homicide charge. His younger brother Liger, 23, escaped.

Tanod Melvin Esquilarga, 38, was making rounds in the village when he noticed the brothers lurking at a dark portion of a footwalk at around 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 16, a police report showed.

Esquilarga said he was suspicious, so he called them out.

That was when Lugemar – armed with a 10-inch knife – charged and repeatedly swung at him while Liger threw a rock that hit his leg, the tanod told the police.

Esquilarga called his fellow tanods via handheld radio for help.

Police seized the knife from Lugemar./PN
