MANILA – The bounty for capturing the killers of four police officers in Ayungon, Negros Oriental has been raised to P5 million.
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said President Rodrigo Duterte decided to increase the reward for a faster arrest of the masterminds and cohorts behind the brutal killing of the four cops.
“We wish to inform the public that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has raised the reward money to P5 million for the capture, dead or alive, of the killers of the Negros policemen,” Panelo said in a statement on Wednesday.
Panelo added that a P100,000 reward will also be given for the capture of each of those involved.
He then vowed that justice will be served as he condemned the incident in the strongest terms.
“We will ensure that justice will be served to those behind this condemnable offense against our peace enforcers. The full force of the law will come crushing down on the perpetrators,” he said
Duterte last week raised the reward for the third time to P3 million. He earlier offered a P1 million reward for the capture of the killers but later increased it to P2 million.
On July 18, Patrolmen Raffy Callo, Roel Cabellon, Marquino de Leon, and Corporal Relebert Beronio of 704th Mobile Force Company of the 7th Regional Mobile Force Battalion were on their way to a detachment in Sitio Nabinca, Barangay Mabato, Ayungon when they were seized and summarily executed by alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA).
The ambush of the policemen came five days after an NPA fighter was killed during the rebels’ encounter with troops of the 62nd Infantry Battalion at the border of Carol-an, Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental and Upper Carol-an, also in Ayungon./PN
