Brent Paraiso gets a shot at Growling Tigers

Brent Paraiso

MANILA – After his name was embroiled in a drug controversy while at De La Salle University Green Archers, Brent Paraiso will get a new lease in his basketball career at University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.

Paraiso, along with another former Green Archer Renzel Yongco, moved to UST and will be eligible to play in UAAP Season 82, Tigers head coach Aldin Ayo told Panay News.

“Brent and Renzel have been practicing with us for a week na. They are great additions to the team. Since they are already familiar with my system, they will not have a hard time adjusting,” Ayo said.

May laro naman iyang si Brent and he can contribute basta magamit siya ng tama,” he added. “As for Renzel, magaling na iyong bata noong nasa La Salle pa pero hindi mai-lineup dahil madami siyang ka-position.”

Paraiso, along with brothers Ricci and Rashleigh Rivero, were removed from Green Archers’ basketball team earlier this year on suspicion that they were involved in illegal drugs.

On Twitter in March, Paraiso announced that he has tested negative for drug use as he showed a recent test result while admitting that an earlier test showed he was positive.

Paraiso and Yongco are just two of the three new players set to see action for Growling Tigers in 2019. Another was Cameroonian center Soulemane Chabi Yo, who transferred to UST from Colegio de San Lorenzo Griffins.

Ayo refused to comment when asked if DLSU is also taking in Ricci Rivero, who is reportedly in talks with University of the Philippines Maroons and Adamson University Falcons./PN

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly misstated in the headline that Brent Paraiso’s new team is the Green Archers. De La Salle Green Archers is in fact his old team. He has moved to the UST Growling Tigers.
