Brgy councilwoman falls in antidrug op

ILOILO City – Police caught a village councilwoman in an antidrug operation in Barangay Poblacion North, Oton, Iloilo.

The 65-year-old Milagros Sorongon was detained at the Oton police station after her arrest at 8:45 p.m. on Monday.

Sorongon sold a plastic pack of shabu to an undercover policeman for P20,000, said Chief Inspector Jonathan Pinuela, head of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office.

Four plastic packs of shabu worth P80,000 and drug paraphernalia were further seized from Sorongon.

The village councilwoman faces charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Pinuela said the PDEU discovered Sorongon’s alleged engagement in the drug trade only recently but they learned that she has been peddling drugs for a few years already.

She gets her supply from Bacolod City, Pinuela further claimed.

Chief Inspector Gervinson Moyo, Oton police chief, said Sorongon was not in their station’s watch list of drug personalities.

“Suspected drug dealers we previously arrested told us she was a drug supplier in the town,” said Moyo./PN
