Bridges: ‘Aksyon Balita Numero Uno’ making waves

BY SAMMY JULIAN

FOR the third consecutive year, Aksyon Balita Numero Uno, a morning newscast program over DyOK Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo, bagged the prestigious KBP Golden Dove for Best Newscast, provincial category.

The people running the program deserve the prestigious recognition. For one, their brand of news broadcast has both form and content.

Our felicitations goes out to May Ortega, the program’s news director, and of course, her co-mainstay Aimee Grace Bravo.

They deserve all the credit for delivering the news with skill and fineness and for selecting the most important events for the listeners to truly understand and appreciate the social, economic and political landscape, in the local, national and international scene.

There is a big difference when a lady delivers the news. Smooth, the words clear and distinct, and the choice of news is excellent and delivered with authority.

Delivering the news over radio requires skill, talent and a lot of common sense. One just don’t read the script, one must also be able to understand the upheavals, conflicts and the attendant issues that go with it. And in the limited airtime that’s allotted, one has to dish out as many items as you can – fast, clear and easy to understand.

And these are what constitute the character of Aksyon Balita Numero Uno. Mae and Aimee have mastered these skills. You don’t get the Golden Dove Award for three consecutive years, a grand slam actually, for nothing.

The selection has judges, veteran broadcasters and newsmen who have foremost in mind recognizing the best in the trade.

In so doing, the award will serve to inspire others to do things better and give more effort in developing their own skills as well as sharpen their intellect.

But even their banters and side commentaries come spontaneously, which again is a demonstration of a wider scope of knowledge, understanding and grasp of underpinning issues.

We congratulate newscasters Mae and Aimee for a job well done. May this award push you to explore more areas in the field of broadcasting so you can serve thousands of your listeners whose ears are glued over their radios every morning from 6 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., hungry for relevant, current and stimulating information.

We also congratulate John Paul Tia, DyOK Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo station manager, for steering the station to greater heights.

Aksyon Radyo Iloilo was a finalist as Best Provincial Radio Station, also during the same occasion.

Congratulations to the men and women of Aksyon Radio for a job well done./PN
