BTAO intensifies campaign vs erring pedicabs, tricycles

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) intensifies its campaign to apprehend erring pedicabs and tricycles in this city.

Memorandum Circular No. 2023-195 of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) orders the reinforcement of the prohibition on tricycles, pedicabs, and motorized pedicabs on national highways.

While it is recognized that “tricycles, pedicabs, and motorized pedicabs play a significant role in providing affordable and accessible modes of transportation, especially in areas where larger vehicles may not be practical or available” and have been good sources of livelihood, incidents involving these modes of transportation along national highways remain a major concern.

Jose Antonio Robello, deputy officer-in-charge of BTAO, said this matter is being enforced through the existing City Ordinance (CO) No. 185.

The said ordinance prohibits tricycles and pedicabs from traversing along the circumferential, Burgos, Lacson, and other roads in the city as specified under the local measure.

Robello said BTAO will coordinate with the Bacolod City Police Office in apprehending violators.

Under CO No. 185, violators will be fined P100 for obstruction and P200 for being out of line./PN
