BTAO kicks off anti-illegal parking ops

BACOLOD City – Today, the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) begins its campaign against illegal parking.

For the next two weeks, the BTAO will undergo a dry run implementing City Ordinance (CO) No. 818. This ordinance designates tow-away zones within the city where parking will be prohibited from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“The current phase involves disseminating information to ensure the public is aware of the local law,” said Junji Liba, BTAO chief.

Full-scale implementation, which includes apprehending violators, is set to commence on Oct. 9.

Alongside CO 818, BTAO will also enforce CO 338, which governs other transport and commuting activities.

Per CO 818’s provisions, any operator of a public utility vehicle (PUV) or owner of a private motor vehicle or motorized tricycle — whether an individual or an entity — whose vehicles are found illegally parked or stalled in prohibited zones, or who violates any national or city ordinances, will be fined as follows:

Wheel Clamping Rates:

* P600 for sedan-class vehicles

* P800 for medium-sized vehicles

* P1,000 for heavy vehicles

Towing Fees:

* P1,000 for two or three-wheeled vehicles

* P1,500 for light vehicles for the initial four kilometers

* P2,500 for medium vehicles for the initial four kilometers

* P4,500 for heavy vehicles for the initial four kilometers

* An additional P200 will be charged for every subsequent kilometer from the tow point to the impounding area.

Furthermore, Liba clarified that CO 818 has set charges for impounding or storage fees:

* P200 per day for the first two months

* P350 per day for months three and four

* P500 per day for the final two months (fifth and sixth)./PN
