BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department (BTTMD) will begin implementing the city’s clamping ordinance this week under the new administration.
Atty. Reuben Mikhail Sabig, BTTMD head, confirmed the move to the media after signage was installed in the pilot area along Lacson and Burgos streets, near the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH). He said the department has also started painting the designated clamping zones in the area.
“The main purpose is to clear the road of obstructions, ease traffic congestion, and ensure quick vehicle access during emergencies,” Sabig explained, warning motorists that penalties will be imposed on violators.
The policy is anchored on City Ordinance No. 09-17-818, amended by City Ordinance No. 1035, Series of 2023, which authorizes the BTTMD to clamp illegally parked or stalled vehicles. Clamping fees will range from P600 to P1,000, depending on the violation.
Sabig noted that the zones near hospitals have been painted red to highlight their critical nature. Other areas to be covered include the University of St. La Salle, The Doctor’s Hospital, and Riverside Medical Center./PN
