Businessman arrested for gun-toting in Ivisan

CAPIZ – A 55-year-old businessman landed in jail after he was caught with an undocumented firearm following a heated commotion in Barangay Ilaya, Ivisan, Capiz.

The Ivisan Municipal Police Station (MPS) identified the suspect as alias Jeoff, a resident of the said area.

Local police responded to the scene after receiving a distress call from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Ivisan. The BFP had been alerted by Punong Barangay Celia Almodiente regarding an ongoing altercation in the neighborhood involving an armed individual.

Investigation revealed that a witness, identified as Ricky Laganon, saw Jeoff locked in a confrontation with a man identified only as alias “Den.” During the argument, Jeoff allegedly pulled out a handgun from his sling bag and was about to aim it at Den.

Fearing that the situation would turn bloody, Laganon said he intervened and managed to disarm Jeoff and later turned the weapon over to the responding police officers.

While Jeoff was able to present his license to own and possess firearms (LTOPF), he failed to produce a valid permit to carry firearm outside residence (PTCFOR). This prompted the police to immediately place him under arrest.

Authorities recovered a .9mm Armscor pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition from the suspect.

Jeoff is currently detained at the Ivisan MPS lockup facility and is facing charges for violating Section 31, Article V of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act)./PN
