Jeron Teng moving on from painful D-League stint
AFTER a disappointing finish for his team Flying V Thunder in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup, Jeron Teng is now setting his sights on preparing to enter the professional ranks.
The former De La Salle University Green Archers star said he is moving on from that sorry exit and focuses on working on his skills as the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft draws closer.
âI am taking this opportunity to work on my individual skills to prepare for PBA,â said Teng. âRight now, I am consistently working on my outside shooting as well as dribbling, passing and anything that I can add to my game.â
âI must admit that our semifinals exit in D-League was very painful since we have won all of our previous matches, only to fumble in the semis,â he added. âBut we just have to learn from it. The experience will help us become more mature.â
Unlike his fellow collegiate stars Kiefer Ravena and Bobby Ray Parks Jr., Teng said there will be no more turning back for him to jump to the PBA, where he is projected to be picked among the top three.
The Philippine Basketball Association is now accepting applications for the 2017 Rookie Draft. The deadline for submission of applications and requirements for Filipino-foreign players is on Sept. 1, while local-born aspirants have until Oct. 12.
There will also be a Draft Combine, which serves as a test to determine the skill set and physical abilities of the players, from Oct. 23 to 26. The final list of candidates for the Rookie Draft will be announced on Oct. 27.
âDefinitely there will be no more turning back. I just donât want to speculate if pang-ilan ako mapi-pick,â said Teng, who could possibly end up teaming up with elder brother Jeric if he gets picked by Kia Picanto, which is projected to pick within top two.
TCHOUCKBALL CHAMP
The Tchouckball Association of the Philippines (TAP) made an impressive performance despite failing to land a medal finish in the just-concluded World Beach Tchoukball Championships in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
The womenâs team settled for a fifth-place finish while the menâs side ended up at seventh place in the tournament that was also participated by some of the worldâs best tchouckball players.
The womenâs team â led by Bacolodnons Nadine Julia Crisostomo, Mary Abelarde, Ashley Julienne Pedregosa, and Ivanna Aguilar â had a masterful 38-28 win over Malaysia to offset their defeats to Taiwan (25-27) and Hong Kong (34-43).
The menâs team â bannered by Bacolodnons Rik Aldrei Despojo, Josiah Su, John Elray Jamelo, and Benjie Oray â also had impressive huge wins over France (44-29), Thailand (50-31) and Cameroon (51-37) before losing to Taiwan (34-55) and Macau (39-52).
Other teams in the competition were Argentina, Czech Republic, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nepal, Macao, Poland, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, and the African Tchoukball Confederation.
Tchoukball is an indoor ball game for two teams of 12 players (seven on the court at any time), in which points are scored by throwing the ball so that it hits a frame and bounces outside of a semicircular region./PN
