ILOILO City – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is observing strict security measures at the Iloilo Airport.
“This is a call to all. They should be early for their flights otherwise they will be late because of the security measures,” said CAAP Iloilo terminal supervisor Art Parreño.
The Airport Security Committee (ASC) tightened the screening of people particularly at the entrances of the airport following an alert issued by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
This is also part of the security measures for today’s founding anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
Authorities do not discount the possibility that communist rebels would stage offensives in vital installations such as airports to mark their 48th anniversary.
Parreño recently met with representatives of Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific to “ensure that there will be seamless check in of passengers” for them to “respond to whatever increase in passengers.”
“Many flights are coming in due to this holiday season,” he said.
The airport caters to over 50 flights daily.
CAAP’s program called “Balik Pasko 2017” is aligned with the “Oplan Ligtas Byahe” of the DOTr.
“Balik Pasko 2017,” which runs until Jan. 5, 2018, aims to ensure safe, reliable and convenient operations.
“This mandates that all employees assigned on airport operations are not allowed to go on leave,” said Parreño.
All employees were advised to observe the “no gift policy” in accordance with Republic Act 6713 or the ethical standards for government employees.
CAAP Iloilo girds for an increase in traffic of passengers not just this holiday season but also with additional flights that will be launched by Air Asia bound for Clark Airport (Pampanga) and Cebu in January and March next year. (PNA)
