BACOLOD City – A taxi driver was stabbed on Gatuslao Street yesterday, police said.
The 64-year-old Barangay Bata resident Donato Cortez sustained stab wounds on the body and was currently recuperating at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Investigators from Police Station 1 said two men rode Cortez’s cab from Locsin-Gonzaga streets to Gatuslao Street that day.
Upon reaching Gatuslao, the men declared holdup.
When Cortez said he had no money to give, the robbers attacked him using a bladed weapon, the investigators added.
Police were still identifying and locating the suspects who fled after the stabbing.
Valladolid crash kills homebound driver
The motorcycle he was driving crashed against an automobile at Bangga Pedion in Barangay Bagumbayan, Valladolid, Negros Occidental, a police report showed.
The 58-year-old Barangay Alijis, Valladolid resident Emmanuel Agustin died, police said.
The homebound Agustin was on board his Rusi motorcycle navigating the road around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday when the crash happened.
Investigators said he was taking over a Kia Bongo pick-up driven by the 41-year-old Jeffrey Flores of Ilog, Negros Occidental when he bumped into a Hyundai Accent sedan that Sipalay City, Negros Occidental resident Joel Ceriaco, also 41, was driving.
Woman found dead
The security guard of a lending cooperative she works in found her dead in their office in Barangay Pook, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
The 27-year-old bookkeeper Jessel Ornello of Barangay Bagawines, Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental bore stabs wounds on the body, police said.
FCCT Lending Cooperative Calatrava Branch security guard Algiemer Dela Cruz found Ornello’s body past midnight on Sunday.
Police said the cooperative office was robbed.
Investigation into the incident was still ongoing.
Cadiz drug suspect falls
Police arrested a newly identified drug suspect in Barangay Zone 1, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
Cadiz City police head Chief Inspector Rocky Desear identified the suspect as the 37-year-old Ven John Verdeflor of Barangay Tinampaan, Cadiz City.
Verdeflor was arrested after he sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover officer for P500 along Gustilo Boulevard around 4:50 p.m. on Aug. 5, a police report showed.
When frisked, Verdeflor yielded three more sachets of the suspected illegal drugs with an estimated market value of P2,000.
Police also impounded Verdeflor’s Suzuki smash motorcycle.
Verdeflor was detained at the Cadiz City police station lockup facility.
He was facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (With Cyrus Garde/PN)
