ILOILO City – A taxi driver was found dead in the back compartment of his vehicle in Barangay Poblacion, Dumarao, Capiz.

The 49-year-old Jessie Cabitin was a resident of Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao district and driver of Sher-Lyn taxi with plate number FWZ-659.

Police Officer 1 Heman Habulan discovered the dead Cabitin around 3:10 p.m. yesterday. Nearby residents told him about a taxi parked along the national highway since Wednesday night and he inspected it.

Taxi owner Lina Navarra of Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao confirmed Cabitin’s identity, according to Inspector Wilfredo Escalera, Dumarao police chief.

Cabitin had two wounds on the neck but Escalera wasn’t sure yet if those were stab or gunshot wounds.

“We are waiting for the report of the Scene of the Crime Operatives,” said Escalera.

Cabitin’s mobile phone and wallet could no longer be found but Escalera said P900 cash were found inside a pocket of the driver’s trousers.

“We’re not discounting any angles or motives, including robbery and personal grudge,” said Escalera.

From what the police gathered from the driver’s wife, Cabitin’s could not be reached since Wednesday night./PN
