BACOLOD City – The City of Cadiz in Negros Occidental won first place in the Best Local Government Unit (LGU) Booths in the recently concluded Panaad sa Negros Festival.
The Cadiz LGU bested 12 other component cities with its exceptional pavilion’s sustainable architectural design, seamlessly embodying the city’s commitment to environmental consciousness.
Its sustainable rooftop showcases farming system where lush rice paddies and green leafy vegetables thrived on the roof — a strong testament to the city’s vision of integrating food security with eco-friendly practices.
This rare yet innovative design transformed the city’s pavilion into a living model of sustainable agriculture and urban greening, demonstrating how cities can utilize available spaces to cultivate food and promote environmental sustainability.
The rooftop rice paddies and vegetable garden symbolized Cadiz’s rich agricultural heritage that highlighted its proactive approach to addressing climate change and ensuring food security.
Additioanlly, the Cadiz Pavilion showcased the city’s unique and sustainable waste management practices through its innovative “Waste to Worth, Shoot for Circular Economy!” initiative.
This program encouraged visitors to deposit plastic bottles in exchange for points that could be used to avail of Cadiz local products displayed by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The SWM Corner at the Cadiz booth allowed participants to shoot a bottle, earn points, and get a reward.
The second and third placers for Best LGU Booth (city category) were the cities of Sipalay and Sagay, respectively.
In the municipal category, Calatrava bagged the first place; Pulupandan, second; and Manapla, third.
The Best LGU Booths winners were compliant with Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 2025./PN
