Cajeras, Asuela win Sipalay chess titles

JAMON Cajeras and Ellan Asuela dominated the 15 and Under and Rapid Open categories of the Sipalay Chessfest at the Sipalay City Gym in Negros Occidental.

Cajeras ruled 15 and Under after finishing with 5.5 points in six rounds while Bacolod City native Asuela bagged the Rapid Open category title with 5.5 points over last weekend.

A P5,000 cash prize, a trophy and a medal were what Cajeras took home, while Asuela pocketed P10,000 cash, a medal and a trophy.

Making to the top 10 in 15 and Under were Clark Ken Pelione, Adrian Amor dela Luna, Kenneth Allen Ballo-allo, Alfonso Louis Olendo, Christian Pelione, Jannica Freyan Maric Llena, Karl Albert Alvaran, Jose Charles Montalvo, and Karl Patrick Bardinas.

Second and third placers took home P4,000 and P3,000, respectively, with a trophy and medal each, while the consolation prize of P2,000 was given to the fourth placer; P1,000 for fifth placer; P800 for sixth placer; P700 for seventh placer; P600 for eighth placer; and P500 each for the ninth and 10th placers.

Completing the top 10 in Rapid Open were Danny Maerks Mangao, Eric Abanco, Ric Raymund dela Peña, Ted Ian Montoyo, Felix Gonzales, Marvin Ting, Jerich Cajeras, Joseph Navarra, and Sonny Pasco.

Second and third placers got P8,000 and P6,000, respectively, with a trophy and medal each. The fourth placer got P5,000; fifth, P4,000; sixth, P3,000; seventh, P2,000; eighth to 10th, P1,000 each.

The special award Best 10 Under was given to Louie Nerio; Best 12 Under, Jamelin Ruth Lim; Best 14 Under, Adam Noah Belano; and Top Female, Aliah Grace Belano. They received P500 each./PN
