ILOILO — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has intensified its campaign against traffic violators in the central part of Iloilo Province, issuing 248 Temporary Operator’s Permits (TOPs) during a three-day enforcement operation aimed at strengthening road discipline and preventing road crashes.
The July 22 to 24 operation, spearheaded by the LTO Region 6 Field Enforcement Unit (FEU) and the LTO Calinog District Office, focused on Calinog and nearby municipalities where authorities have observed an increase in traffic-related incidents.
The enforcement drive formed part of the agency’s broader effort to ensure compliance with land transportation laws and promote safer roads across Western Visayas.
Before the enforcement activities, the LTO team paid courtesy calls on Calinog’s Mayor Francisco Calvo and Bingawan’s Mayor Matt Palabrica to strengthen coordination with local government units and secure support for road safety initiatives.
Calvo expressed full support for the campaign, stressing the importance of closer collaboration between local governments and the LTO “to protect our citizens from traffic-related accidents and to promote responsible driving behaviors.”
Aside from apprehending violators, the enforcement team conducted an information campaign by distributing educational materials to motorists on the importance of possessing valid driver’s licenses, maintaining updated vehicle registration, and understanding the consequences of violating traffic laws.
LTO-6 said the campaign underscores the importance of combining strict law enforcement with public education and strong partnerships with local government units to improve road safety.
The agency added that its enforcement efforts are anchored on Republic Act No. 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, and Republic Act No. 8750, both aimed at promoting responsible road use and strengthening traffic discipline.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of LTO-6 regional director Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan II and Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu, who emphasized that sustained enforcement, education, and cooperation with local stakeholders remain essential in reducing traffic violations and ensuring safer roads for motorists and commuters across the region./PN
