ILOILO — The Iloilo provincial government has extended ₱560,000 in emergency financial assistance to 56 repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) displaced by the escalating crisis in the Middle East, providing each beneficiary with ₱10,000 to help them restart their lives and livelihoods upon returning home.
The financial assistance was distributed on July 24 at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol through the Office of the Provincial Public Employment Service Manager (OPPESM), headed by Provincial PESO Manager Dr. Cynthya P. Dario, in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (OPSWDO), led by Acting Head Rani Melvi Cuarte, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6.
The assistance package, initiated under the leadership of Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., aims to provide immediate relief to Ilonggo migrant workers affected by the conflict abroad while helping them reintegrate into their communities.
Vice Gov. Nathalie Ann Debuque witnessed the distribution of the financial assistance and assured the returning workers that her office remains open to address their concerns and welfare.
Dr. Dario underscored the provincial government’s commitment to supporting OFWs whose lives have been disrupted by international crises.
“The initiative reflects IPG’s dedication to ensuring that no Ilonggo is left behind during times of uncertainty and supporting their successful reintegration into the community,” Dario said.
A total of 56 repatriated OFWs from various parts of Iloilo Province received the cash assistance as part of the provincial government’s continuing efforts to assist Ilonggos returning from conflict-affected areas overseas./PN
