ILOILO – The provincial government is ramping up investments in education and community development, channelling millions of pesos into new classrooms, multipurpose halls, gyms, and even water systems to improve both learning and living conditions across the province.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. led the recent turnover of funds for several projects, stressing that education and community infrastructure are key to uplifting the lives of Ilonggos.
At Felimon Alfeche National High School in Barangay Abang-Abang, Alimodian, the provincial government allocated P5.8 million for a new three-classroom building.
“This is an investment that will have a direct and positive impact on the lives of learners,” Defensor said as he personally handed the funding to barangay officials.
In Barangay Poblacion, New Lucena, the Capitol released P4 million for the construction of Phase 2 of the town’s multipurpose hall. Mayor Carl Vincent Mondejar received the check, with Defensor emphasizing that the project will provide residents with a larger venue for public services and social gatherings.
Meanwhile, in Pototan, P790,000 was granted to Alberto Sorongon Sr. Memorial National High School for the completion of a state-of-the-art multipurpose gymnasium, designed to serve both students and the community.
In Dingle, the Capitol allocated P878,720 to upgrade the water system at Tinucu-an Elementary School, ensuring clean and reliable access for students and teachers. Defensor turned over the check personally, underscoring that a safe water supply is essential for health and effective learning.
These projects, coursed through the Provincial School Board and other development funds, reflect the Capitol’s continuing push to modernize public education facilities and expand community infrastructure across Iloilo.
