BACOLOD City – Describing itself as a “public watchdog” and “representative of provincial government employees,” the capitol workers’ union asserted its right to “inquire” regarding concerns on their uniform.

“We are just doing our role as the collective voice of the employees on issues that concern them and their rights,” the Progressive Alliance of Capitol Employees (PACE) said in a statement.

In its statement, the PACE claimed uniform committee chairwoman Ma. Lina Sanogal accused it of “deeping [sic] its fingers into the uniform issue instead of answering the complaints of some of the employees.”

“Don’t make it an election issue,” the PACE quoted Sanogal as telling the union.

According to the PACE, Sanogal said all the uniforms will be completely delivered on the first week of March this year “because the down payment was made in August 2016 after all the measurements of employees were taken.”

“The supplier delivered in December a batch of polo barongs with the second batch of uniforms to come in January, Sanogal pointed out,” read part of the statement.

Capitol employees lamented the delay in the delivery of their uniforms, especially since the fee was already charged to their allowance.

Less than one-eighth of the employees have so far received their uniforms and complained they were “defective,” the union claimed.

Panay News was still trying to contact Sanogal as of this writing.

“Is it wrong to ask and clarify matters that concern our members?” the PACE said. “Let us not evade issues by simply throwing unfounded issues to cover what is really asked for. The real issue is when capitol employees will receive their uniforms.”

The issue on the uniform “is a recurring problem, and we hope that if we are asking on behalf of our members, please don’t misconstrue us,” said the union./PN
