Capiz builds first Emergency Operation Center in Region 6

ROXAS City – The construction of a three-storey P45-million Aksyon Tabang Emergency Operation Center has started here.

The blessing and groundbreaking ceremony, Jan. 21, at ESLA in Barangay Lanot, here, was led by Governor Antonio Del Rosario.

He was joined by Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-6 regional director Jose Roberto Nuñez, assistant division commander Brigadier General Erick Vinoya of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, Western Visayas Coast Guard District Acting commander Captain Allan Victor Dela Vega and other local and national government officials.

The construction of the Emergency Operation Center cum Evacuation Center costing more than P30.77-million is expected to be completed in July 2020; however, Del Rosario appeals to the contractor to speed up the activity and finish the work ahead of the schedule.

In his message, Nuñez lauded Governor Del Rosario for giving much importance to the strengthening of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management program and for the all-out support to the Provincial DRRM Office in Capiz led by PDRRM Officer Judy Grace Pelaez.

He said the Aksyon Tabang Emergency Operation Center in Capiz is the first in Panay Island and in Western Visayas.

“I hope that the other LGUs in Capiz and in the rest of the region will follow what the provincial government of Capiz has done,” he said.

On the other hand, Del Rosario said his administration is doing programs and projects that will help the Capiceños especially during disasters and emergencies.

He said that in his less than three years of   service as governor, the province was able to purchase seven units of brand new ambulance,  three units rescue speed boats, repaired the hospitals, heavy equipment, implemented scholarship programs, salary increase, among others.

Del Rosario also noted the dedication, commitment and sincerity of the staff of the PDRRMO and members of the Capiz Emergency Response Team in the delivery of their services to help others especially during emergencies.

The Governor also urged everyone including those in the public and private sectors to do what is good for the government and for the people.

Part of the ceremony was the ceremonial turnover by Del Rosario to Dela Vega of the P2.9-million high end speedboat for the Philippine Coast Guard Station- Capiz.

Meanwhile, Pelaez thanked Del Rosario for making into a reality this dream Emergency Operation Center cum Evacuation Center that will serve as the coordination hub for incident response. (PIA/PN)
