CAPIZ — The newly inaugurated Capiz Provincial Capitol became a vibrant stage for the “Kapusod Imaw: Capiz–Aklan–Romblon Cultural Exchange,” one of the highlights of the Capiztahan 2026 festival on April 15.
The event showcased the rich and diverse cultural heritage shared by the three provinces, featuring a series of artistic performances that captivated the audience and underscored strong inter-provincial ties.
More than a dozen cultural groups from Capiz, Aklan, and Romblon participated, presenting traditional dances, folk music, and spoken word poetry. Clad in colorful traditional attire, performers transformed the Capitol grounds into a dynamic display of cultural expression.
Each presentation offered a glimpse into the unique customs and traditions of the participating provinces, fostering greater appreciation for their shared artistic heritage.
Beyond entertainment, the event carried historical significance, highlighting the deep-rooted connections among the three provinces, which were once part of the original province of Capiz.
Romblon became a separate province through Act No. 2724 in 1917, while Aklan gained independence through Republic Act No. 1414, signed into law by President Ramon Magsaysay on April 25, 1956.
This shared history served as a meaningful reminder of the enduring cultural and historical bonds among the provinces.
Organizers emphasized that “Kapusod Imaw” goes beyond a cultural showcase, symbolizing continued unity and fellowship despite political and administrative boundaries.
Dignitaries present included Capiz Gov. Fredenil H. Castro and Aklan Vice Gov. Dexter M. Calizo, representing Gov. Jose Enrique Miraflores, as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Romblon led by Board Member Maria Rhosarean Solis.
Their presence highlighted the importance of strengthening inter-provincial relations and promoting cultural preservation for future generations.
