CAPIZ — The provincial government of Capiz, under the leadership of Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, expressed optimism over the completion of the Panay River Basin Integrated Development Project, a long-delayed initiative seen as key to addressing chronic flooding in the province.
The project, which aims to strengthen flood control, improve irrigation systems, and support sustainable development, is viewed as a critical step toward ensuring the safety and economic stability of local communities.
During a recent mass oath-taking ceremony for promoted teachers and school heads in Western Visayas, Castro voiced confidence in the commitment of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to complete the project.
“I have unwavering faith in the President’s promise to complete the unfinished work left by his late father,” Castro said, citing the project’s origins during the administration of Ferdinand E. Marcos.
The Panay River Basin project has long been envisioned as a comprehensive solution to flooding in the region but has faced decades of delays due to political and economic challenges.
“We cannot let the potential benefits of this project slip away any longer. It’s essential for the safety and well-being of our residents,” Castro added.
Malacañang, through Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, earlier reaffirmed that the project remains a priority under the Marcos administration as part of broader efforts to enhance infrastructure and disaster resilience in Western Visayas.
The renewed commitment has raised hopes among local officials and residents who have long awaited the project’s implementation.
Castro also appealed to the people of Western Visayas to support the administration, noting the region’s connection to Liza Araneta-Marcos.
“As residents of this rich and vibrant land, it’s our duty to stand behind our leaders who genuinely care for our needs and aspirations,” he said.
Addressing newly promoted educators, Castro emphasized their role in nation-building beyond the classroom, encouraging them to contribute to community development and a better future for the province.
“As you take your oath, let us not only commit to delivering quality education but also to working toward a prosperous future,” he said.
