CAPIZ – The Capiz Provincial Government, through its Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO), led a meaningful commemoration of the 128th Philippine Independence Day held in front of the Capiz Provincial Capitol on June 12, 2026.
With the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan,” the celebration honored the sacrifices of Filipino heroes while calling on present and future generations to uphold unity, responsibility, and love of country.
Provincial Administrator Atty. Arthur John H. Biñas underscored the importance of remembering the province’s historical role in the nation’s struggle for freedom.
“Our ancestors in the Province of Capiz did not sit idly by while the nation fought for its soul. From the early resistance against colonial rule to the struggles for democracy in recent decades, Capisnons have stood at the front lines. We are a people of peace but also a people of principle,” Biñas said.
The event gathered representatives from national government agencies, local offices, academic institutions, civic and religious organizations, and the private sector, highlighting strong intersectoral cooperation and community solidarity.
The program began with a flag-raising ceremony and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, setting a tone of reverence and national pride.
Local artists and cultural groups also showcased traditional dances and performances that highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines.
Community leaders and youth advocates took part in a dialogue on youth involvement in nation-building, emphasizing the importance of education, civic engagement, and social responsibility in shaping the country’s future.
Organizers said the celebration served not only as a reflection on the country’s past struggles but also as a reminder of the continuing responsibility to safeguard democratic ideals and national freedom.
In a social media post, the PTCAO emphasized the importance of sustaining patriotism and unity, saying: “Together, let us continue to uphold the spirit of patriotism, safeguard our hard-earned freedom, preserve our rich heritage and work hand in hand toward a progressive, resilient and united nation for generations to come.”
