CAPIZ – The Capiz provincial government led by Gov. Fredenil H. Castro conducted an inspection of the ongoing relocation and construction of the new capitol building at Pueblo de Panay in Roxas City.

The five-storey building, rising on a three-hectare lot, is designed to address the increasing operational demands of the provincial government and to better serve Capisnons from across the province. The relocation and construction of the new facility aim to elevate the quality of infrastructure and public service delivery in Capiz.

Once completed, the new capitol will offer over 15,000 square meters of space — more than twice the size of the current capitol located along McKinley Street, adjacent to the Immaculate Conception Cathedral.

Strategically situated along a six-lane main road and near the Roxas City Integrated Transport Terminal, the new building is expected to improve accessibility and streamline services provided by the various provincial government offices it will house.

Present during the inspection were capitol department heads, Pueblo de Panay Inc. President and CEO Jose Nery “Bub” Ong, as well as engineers and architects overseeing the project.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new capitol was held on January 18, 2024, where the architectural design and project blueprint were formally unveiled.

The project is a collaborative undertaking between the provincial government and Pueblo de Panay Township, reflecting their shared commitment to sustainable development and progress.

Meanwhile, the provincial government assured the public that the old capitol building will be preserved as part of Capiz’s cultural heritage zone./PN
