CAPIZ – In a bid to uplift the livelihoods of local fisherfolk, the provincial government of Capiz, under the leadership of Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, distributed brand-new fishing boats to beneficiaries in Barangay Balogo, Pilar town, on June 13.
The distribution ceremony was attended by recipients from various barangays within the municipality of Pilar, including Balogo, Binaobawan, Dayhagan, Natividad, Rosario, Poblacion, and San Ramon, as well as from Barangay Light in Panay town. The beneficiaries were accompanied by their respective local officials.
This initiative, part of the provincial government’s continuing livelihood support programs, aims to provide local fishermen with essential tools and resources to improve their fishing operations, enhance productivity, and increase household incomes. It also seeks to promote long-term sustainability in the fishing industry—one of the vital economic drivers in coastal communities of Capiz.
Complementing the construction of a new aquaculture feed mill in the province, this project reflects the administration’s commitment to empowering local communities through concrete, livelihood-based interventions.
Gov. Castro emphasized that equipping fisherfolk with quality boats will not only help them improve their daily catch but will also contribute to the overall economic resilience of their barangays.
Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources–Provincial Fisheries Office (BFAR-PFO) Officer-in-Charge Edwin Candelario Javier was present at the event to help distribute the fishing boats. He expressed optimism that this assistance would bring significant improvements to the lives of the beneficiaries.
Grateful families and local officials from Pilar and Panay lauded the provincial government for its proactive response to their needs. For them, the program is a tangible step toward a more stable and prosperous future for Capiz’s fishing communities./PN
