CAPIZ – The Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Unit (PDRRMU) is stepping up preparations for the Regional Rescue Olympics scheduled from July 25 to 29 in Antique as part of the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month.
This year’s celebration carries the theme, “Preparing and Acting Towards a Resilient New Philippines.”
Members of the PDRRMU, led by head Atty. Sheila Artilero, met with Gov. Fredenil H. Castro at the Capiz Provincial Capitol on July 21 to discuss the team’s preparations and ensure they are ready for the challenges of the regional competition.
During the meeting, Castro underscored the importance of the responders’ role and the honor of representing the province in the Regional Rescue Olympics.
The governor also expressed his support for the team, commending its dedication and commitment to public service.
He urged the responders to uphold integrity and professionalism throughout the competition, noting that their participation not only showcases their rescue skills but also highlights the importance of disaster preparedness in protecting lives and communities.
The Regional Rescue Olympics aims to assess and enhance the readiness and capabilities of rescue personnel through realistic simulations and technical competitions that test discipline, teamwork, and emergency response skills.
Artilero said in a local radio interview that this year’s competition marks the PDRRMU’s third consecutive appearance in the Regional Rescue Olympics.
She noted that the team won the overall championship in the previous two editions of the competition, reflecting its consistent excellence in disaster response.
