CAPIZ – Two environmental violators were apprehended during a random surveillance
carried out by the Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO).
On January 23 at 12:57 p.m., a top-down tricycle was caught loaded with 1,000 pieces of nipa shingles without the necessary legal documents for its transport in Barangay Bailan, Pontevedra town.
Supposedly bound for the municipality of President Roxas, the nipa shingles have an estimated market value of P4,000, according to the Monitoring and Enforcement Section (MES) team of PENRO.
At around 1:18 p.m. on the same day and in the same area, the MES team intercepted another vehicle bearing plate No. VAW-355 and carrying 16 chairs made of Gmelina species to be delivered to Maayon town. The forest products have an estimated value of P9,600.
Both illegally transported forest products were issued apprehension receipts for violating Section 77 of Presidential Decree 705 (Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines).
The apprehended conveyances and forest products were taken into custody by Capiz PENRO for further legal action.
“We commend Capiz PENR Officer Ernest C. Federiso and the Capiz MES personnel for bravely enforcing our environmental laws,” said Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 6 Executive Director Raul L. Lorilla.
He added: “It may be a small win, yet it is still a win for the environment.”/PN
