CAPIZ — Several public schools in Capiz continue to face challenges in strengthening campus security due to limited funding, preventing them from installing essential safety equipment such as metal detectors, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).
Dr. Roel F. Bermejo, Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Capiz, said improving school infrastructure and security measures remains a priority to ensure the safety of students and school personnel.
Bermejo said all schools are mandated to provide a secure learning environment, but acknowledged that not all public schools have the resources needed to fully comply with safety requirements.
He noted that while many schools in the province have already installed basic security features, including concrete perimeter fences and secured entrance gates, some institutions still lack these fundamental facilities.
Bermejo also cited the absence of metal detectors in several schools, saying the devices are vital in enforcing stricter security protocols and preventing prohibited items from entering school premises.
“The ability to effectively monitor and manage access to school grounds is crucial for safeguarding our students and staff,” Bermejo said.
He appealed for the support of parents, local government units, and other stakeholders to help address the funding gap and strengthen campus security.
According to Bermejo, collaboration among communities and partner agencies is essential in identifying resources and implementing initiatives that will improve both school safety and the quality of education in the province.
He encouraged stakeholders to actively participate in discussions on possible funding sources and other forms of assistance that would enable schools to meet safety standards.
The Schools Division Office of Capiz, he said, remains committed to forging partnerships and securing resources to upgrade school infrastructure and provide modern safety technologies, with the goal of creating a safer and more supportive learning environment for all students./PN
