CAPIZ – The number of fireworks-related injuries in this province has reached 27 as of January 2.
According to the Provincial Health Office (PHO), the cases logged from December 21, 2024 were 42.10 percent higher than the 19 cases listed from December 21, 2023 to January 2, 2024.
Roxas City topped with 10 cases, followed by Mambusao and Sigma with three each, Cuartero (two), and Dao (one), Dumalag (one), Dumarao (one), Ivisan (one), Jamindan (one), Pilar (one), Pontevedra (one), and Tapaz (one).
The municipalities of Maayon, Pan-ay, Panit-an, President Roxas, and Sapi-an have so far recorded no fireworks-related injuries.
The PHO said the most affected age group was 30 to 39 years.
The incidents included 23 cases of blast or burn injuries without amputation and four eye injuries.
Majority of the injuries were inflicted by kwitis, boga and kamara./PN
