MANILA – Stephan Schrock drained the marginal goal for Ceres Negros to score 1-0 against Global Cebu in the Philippines Football League at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Its victory on Sunday evening pushed Ceres to fourth place with 32 points on 10 wins, two draws and three losses. Global is on third place with 34 points.
Ceres midfielders Kevin Ingreso and Manuel Ott had decent attempts early in the match but their shots were ruled as offside.
Ceres continued to pile the pressure midway in the opening half but Wesley Dos Santos of Global was steady clearing dangerous balls. Carlos De Murga nearly sent Ceres ahead at the half with a header attempt but misfired.
After numerous misses at the start of the second half, Ceres notched its first goal in the 79th minute when Schrock unleashed a screamer from 25 yards. Global tried to equalize in the dying minutes but the home defense stood firm.
Global star and Philippine Azkals mainstay Misagh Bahadoran dislocated a shoulder early in the opening half after a bad fall from a challenge.
Meanwhile, in its first encounter with erstwhile players Phil and James Younghusband, Meralco Manila also blanked Davao Aguilas 2-0 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Tahj Minniecon and Negrense Jake Morallo fired a goal each for Meralco, which further tightened its grip of the top spot with 44 points on 13 wins, five draws and two losses./PN
