CERES Negros hopes to continue its unbeaten run in the 2018 AFC Cup Group Stage when it faces Shan United of Myanmar tonight at the Thuwanna Stadium in Yangon.

This will be the second meeting of the two squads in the group stage following Ceres Negros’ 2-0 victory on March 6 in a match held at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

Ceres Negros had a slow start in their last week’s match until Patrick Reichelt pounced on a defensive blunder in the 79th minute to break the tie. Mike Ott then had a nice feed to Bienvenido Marañon to seal the game.

“I think we need to get 3 points in Myanmar,” said Reichelt. “We know the conditions with the heat and all but I’m confident, especially with the win in Panaad, that we could get another 3 points.”

But Reichelt said Ceres Negros expects a huge response from Shan United in their match tonight, with elimination staring at their face if ever they dropped another game.

Ceres Negros is currently on top of Group F with 7 points, followed by Home United of Singapore with 4 markers. Shan United and Boeung Ket have 3 points apiece.

A win by Ceres Negros, which reached all the way to ASEAN Zonal Finals last year, could solidify its hold of the first place in the Group Stage while a loss could break the group wide open./PN
