Chinese engineer hacked in Madalag hinterland

KALIBO, Aklan – A 26-years-old Chinese national was hacked and wounded by an unidentified suspect in the hinterland of Madalag, Aklan.

Madalag police identified the victim as Shi Ji Wu, working as a construction engineer at Chinese-owned  Oriental Energy & Power Generation Corp.

The Chinese national suffered hack wounds to his left shoulder and chest. He was immediately brought to a private hospital in Kalibo for medical attention.

Earlier, the Development Bank of the Philippines announced that it had signed a P2-billion term loan agreement with a renewable energy company for the development and construction of the 18-megawatt Timbaban hydropower plant in Madalag, Aklan

The Timbaban hydropower project involves the construction and operation of a run-off river 18-MW hydropower plant in Barangay Ma. Cristina, Madalag, Aklan. It is the first hydropower project in the country to obtain a certificate of commerciality from the Department of Energy. It expected to be completed by April of 2019.

Police are currently investigating the motive for the incident and the identity of the suspect./PN
