CHO monitors, allays fear over corona virus spread

BACOLOD City – Health authorities here allayed public fears over the possible spread of novel coronavirus, which has downed hundreds and killed nine people in China.

Ben Arnel Dela Cruz, Development Management Office of the Department of Health (DOH) said that Bacolodnons has nothing to worry about the on-going issue of corona virus.

“We have no case, even surveillance,” he said.

But he urged the Bureau of Quarantine to strengthen its surveillance since visitors will come here to celebrate the Bacoloadiat Festival.

Ma. Carmela Gensoli of the CHO said that the coronavirus is just related to a simple cold, but in severe form it can cause pneumonia.

“The symptoms are common colds, headache, fever, fatigue, sore throat and chill,” she added.

Gensoli also noted the designated ambulance to be used only exclusively to transport patient suspected of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the local government unit in this city in partnership with the DOH Region 6, CHO and the global health care company MSD conducted a vaccination for flu and pneumonia to about thousands of senior citizens and person with disability.

The event dubbed a “Bakunado si Lolo at Lola, Iwas Pulmonya” the campaign aims to promotes the life-course approach to vaccination in order to build a healthy citizenry.
