MANILA – Cherry Rondina stars anew as Choco Mucho Flying Titans notched their second win in 2023 Premier Volleyball League Invitational with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-14 sweep over Foton Tornadoes at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan City.

Rondina, who is making a return to indoor volleyball after focusing on beach volleyball since 2020, tallied 19 points on 15 attacks, three blocks, and an ace, along with six digs to lead the Flying Titans.

“I’m enjoying it here at Choco Mucho, but I just wanted to contribute,” said the former University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses star. “I always tell them that we should not stop until we reach 25 (points).”

Cherry Nunag and Desiree Cheng backed Rondina with 12 and 10 hits, respectively, while Caitlyn Viray added seven markers and Maddie Madayag made six points for Choco Mucho.

“Sobrang masaya sa naging resulta. Lahat ng plano namin sa training, lahat nakukuha naming at tumataas ang porsiyento sa lahat ng ginagawa namin,” said Choco Mucho coach Dante Alinsunurin, Jr.

Ilongga Ma. Shaya Adorador came up with 10 points and Jaila Atiena added eight hits for the Tornadoes, which suffered their second loss in as many games after dropping a four-set setback to the Petro Gazz Angels last Thursday.

F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, meanwhile, survived a tough challenge from Cignal HD Spikers for a 25-20, 30-28, 23-25, 25-22 victory and stayed unbeaten in the PVL mid-season conference.

Kim Kianna Dy sizzled with 23 points, including 20 attack points and three blocks, while Ivy Lacsina chipped in 13 markers as the Cargo Movers notched its second win in as many games.

“We all know Cignal is a strong team so we had to double our efforts pa,” Dy said. “All the teams really stepped up so we also had to step up with double efforts. May mga bago din kaming [rookies] sa loob so we had to guide them din.”

In the other match, PLDT High Speed Hitters (1-0) bucked the absence of some key players to beat Akari Power Chargers, 25-15, 25-19, 25-22. Aklanon Dell Palomata led the way with 14 points for the High Speed Hitters./PN
