In an increasingly connected world, the need for robust cybersecurity measures has become more critical than ever. Recognizing this need, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has taken a significant stride in fortifying community cyber resilience by initiating the Cybercrime Resilient Communities Project. Stellarsat Solutions Inc. provided proactive support, with satellite technology powered by Kacific, a Singapore-based broadband satellite operator.

The Cybercrime Resilient Communities Project is designed with multifaceted objectives to empower communities with the necessary tools, knowledge, and resources to combat cyber threats effectively. Kacific contributes to the project through its connectivity via the Kacific1 satellite, innovative Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSAT) technology, and local presence. Kacific has a widespread local network of over 150 dedicated distributors nationwide, providing prompt and responsive customer service across the nation.

On February 23, 2024, the CICC inaugurated the Cybercrime Resilient Communities Project in Barangay To-og, Northern Samar. The turnover ceremony, attended by key figures such as CICC Executive Director Alexader K. Ramos, Lavezares Mayor Edito B. Saludaga, Catarman Mayor Francisco Aurelio Rosales, District Representative Hon. Paul Ruiz Daza, Stellarsat Solutions, Inc. President Jonjie Almendrala, and Kacific Sales Director Ferdi Simbulan, marked a significant step towards creating a safer digital environment for the community.

Regarding Kacific’s integral involvement in the project, Simbulan said: “Technology’s pivotal role in identifying, preventing, and mitigating cyber threats cannot be overstated. Our solutions offer unique security features and reliable connectivity, empowering communities to navigate the digital landscape confidently and securely.”

Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) installed the Free Wifi in Barangay To-og, Northern Samar as part of the pilot areas of the Cybercrime Resilient Communities (CRC) project of the agency.

The deployment of 30 sites powered by satellite internet by CICC has a target completion date of March 2024. Two terminals have been provided to Barangay To-og, while the remaining sites will be deployed nationwide. With a high-speed service and access of 50mbps download and 10mbps upload per site, the VSATs extend their reach to benefit the barangays and public schools within a 200-meter radius. The aim is to enhance learning environments and create a safer digital space for everyone involved.

Stellarsat, Kacific’s partner and the Internet Service Provider for the project ensures seamless installation, while CICC’s exclusive utilization of Kacific’s VSAT technology underscores its commitment to the region’s robust and reliable network infrastructure. Kacific is dedicated to creating a digital landscape that is secure, resilient, and accessible for all. Kacific’s VSATs are portable and easily transported, making them well-suited for deployment in mountainous and rural areas. They offer speeds of up to 100Mbps via the Kacific1 satellite, which has wide coverage over 25 countries in the Asia Pacific.

With Kacific’s high-speed and affordable internet service, users can access high-quality video streaming, voice calls over the Internet, internet browsing, and a diverse range of internet-based software applications.

Barangays and schools are the primary beneficiaries of the Cybercrime Resilient Communities Project

As technology continues to evolve, Kacific’s commitment to enhancing cybersecurity aligns with the nation’s broader goal of fostering a digital environment where communities can thrive without the fear of cyber threats. Through this initiative, Kacific not only provides highspeed and affordable internet connectivity but also ensures that isolated communities are equipped with the knowledge and technology to face the challenges of the digital age head-on.
