MANILA – Cignal HD Spikers leaned on the exploits of Liannes Castañeda Simon to cruise to a 19-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 triumph over Generika-Ayala Lifesavers in the 2020 Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at the Bacoor Strike Gym in Cavite yesterday.
Despite only arriving over the weekend, the Cuban import immediately blended well with her HD Spikers teammates. She fired 24 kills for 29 points for Cignal HD to take an early lead in the standings.
“Well I’m very happy. Actually, she barely had any sleep, but she did her best for our team,” HD Spikers head coach Edgar Barroga. “She’s a reliable import and I put my complete trust on her.”
“Winning over a team as solid as the Lifesavers is such a huge morale-booster, especially that we are facing F2 Logistics this weekend,” Barroga added.
The HD Spikers had a rusty start, surrendering the opening set to the Lifesavers. The team only found its rhythm in the second set and went on to notch the next three.
Filipina- Hawaiian Alohi Robins-Hardy had 14 points, while Ranya Musa and Roselyn Doria combined for 13 markers in the match that took almost two hours to finish for the winning team.
Cuban reinforcement Elizabeth Vicet Campos finished the game with 21 points, while Negrense Christine Joy Soyud had 13 markers for the Lifesavers, which suffered its second straight defeat in as many games./PN
