ILOILO City – The City Council has approved a resolution for the 2025 Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund Annual Investment Plan (LDRRMF AIP), amounting to P206.7 million.
This budget, approved unanimously by the councilors during their session yesterday, will finance a range of disaster risk reduction and management initiatives to enhance the city’s preparedness and response capabilities.
The funds will support emergency response efforts, infrastructure for risk reduction, and community resilience programs, demonstrating the city’s proactive approach to disaster readiness for the coming year.
Of the total amount, P144.49 million — or 70 percent — is allocated to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) specifically for disaster preparedness and mitigation programs.
The remaining 30 percent, or P62 million, is designated for the Quick Response Fund (QRF), ensuring resources are readily available for immediate emergency response when needed.
This division ensures that while most resources focus on proactive disaster management, a substantial amount is readily available for emergency response in times of immediate need.
“The Iloilo City Government is intensifying its disaster risk reduction and resilience programs, projects, and activities to avert possible damages and losses brought by various hazards such as fire, flooding, typhoon, storm surge, and earthquake among others,” read the resolution.
On October 23, 2024, a Special Meeting of the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Council was held to discuss the proposed programming of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund for Fiscal Year 2025.
The council reviewed the fund allocation guided by Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2013-1, which provides the framework for prioritizing disaster risk reduction, preparedness, and response programs.
The meeting was held to ensure that the proposed budget aligns with national standards and addresses the specific needs of Iloilo City for the upcoming year./PN
